School’s history and founding principles

Introduction to the Montessori philosophy

At the heart of Montessori education is a deep respect for each child’s unique potential. Developed by Dr. Maria Montessori over 100 years ago, the Montessori philosophy emphasizes self-directed learning, hands-on activities, and a carefully prepared environment that supports the natural development of children.

Unlike traditional education, the Montessori approach recognizes that children are naturally curious and learn best when given the freedom to explore topics that interest them. In our classrooms, children are encouraged to make independent choices, work at their own pace, and develop a love for learning through practical, real-world experiences.

Montessori education nurtures the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Through a combination of guided learning and self-exploration, children build critical thinking skills, develop creativity, and gain confidence in their abilities. With an emphasis on collaboration rather than competition, students learn to work together, respect each other’s differences, and grow into compassionate, responsible citizens.

At Waxberry’s Montessori we are proud to continue Dr. Montessori’s legacy, creating a nurturing environment where children flourish and are prepared for a lifetime of learning, growth, and success.
